Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Frank Thrift, 44, who was killed Saturday morning near Port Neches in a collision of a Kansas City Southern freight and switch engine.  Services were held at the Pilot Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a member, conducted by Rev. Roy Stanley, pastor, and Rev. E.P. Wootten, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Whitewright.  Interment was in Pilot Grove Cemetery, directed by Glen Earnheart.  Active pallbearers were Wheeler Russell, Dick Russell, Fred Starr, Jr.; Adolphus Hopper; Albert Burks; and Clarence Murphy.
Mr. Thrift was born February 9, 1899 in Pilot Grove. He was married February 2, 1943 to Miss Geneva Wagner of Sillisaw, Oklahoma.  He served in the Army about 18 months and was staff sergeant when he was released from active service 7 months ago.  After his release, he went to Port Arthur and accepted employment as a switchman.  In the accident that cost him his life, another switchman, J.S. Bowman, of Leesville, Louisiana was killed and 3 other persons were injured.  Mr. Thrift and Mr. Bowman were riding in the caboose when the accident happened.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Thrift of Whitewright; his wife of Port Arthur; and 5 sisters, Mrs. W.A. Smart of Winnsboro; Mrs. C.L. Holland of Whitewright; Mrs. T.A. Thorpe of Pottsboro; Mrs. Thelma Moore of Dallas; and Mrs. E.C. Moats of the Desert community, south of Whitewright.
