Mrs. Harriett M. Dixon, wife of the late J.E. Dixon, died last Thursday night at 11:30 o'clock at her home seven miles south of Whitewright, following a ten weeks' illness.
Mrs. Dixon was born at Springfield, Missouri, March 4, 1858.  She was married July 31, 1884 to J.E. Dixon, who died March 7, 1924.
The following are surviving children: Mrs. Annie Tate, Mrs. B.A. Morris, Bruce Dixon, J.H. "Bill" Dixon, and Mrs. M.H. Trotter, all residing south of town; and J.E. Wortham of Leonard.
The deceased had lived in the Pilot Grove community for the past twenty-five years.
The funeral service was held at the Pilot Grove Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.M. Kirby, assisted by Rev. J.A. Henderson.
The following tribute to the deceased was sent to The Sun by a friend:
"On July 16, Mrs. Harriet Dixon departed this life.  She had been an intense sufferer for 12 years.  Every thing that love and skill could do was to no avail.  She bore her suffering bravely, many times smiling through intense pain.  She was a consistent member of the Methodist Church for 50 years.  She was one of the first to go when a neighbor was sick.  She could be depended upon to fill her place in church.  She was a good neighbor and friend.
"Her husband, J.E. Dixon, was called to his reward March 7, 1924.  He was one of a family of early settlers in our community.  He did much for the uplifting and upbuilding of our neighborhood and was always ready to help in anything good.  Mrs. Dixon was left an orphan early in life, and she always had a kind word and love for orphan children.  Many were the deeds of love and kindness this good woman did which will be remembered on earth and be stars in her crown.  Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, by their toil and careful living, left their children a neat sum of earthly possessions.
Mrs. Dixon was never one to take her eyes from heaven and heavenly things while looking after earthly things.  A good Christian has gone to enjoye the blessings God has for his children.  We loved her."
