Mrs. Betty Sloan died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Wilson, at Pilot Grove at 11:50 p.m., July 27, after an illness of 4 weeks, during which time she suffered intense pain.   Tender ministering hands of children, grandchildren and other relatives, neighbors and friends did all possible to alleviate her suffering and restore her to health again or make her going easy.
Aunt Betty, as she was affectionately called, was fully aware of her condition, and often during her conscious hours, talked freely to those who were about her bedside; she admonished them to live right and strive always for the better things of this life.  She had no fear of death, but placed her trust in One who doeth all things well, and peacefully and quietly, like a  tired child, closed her eyes and slept as her gentle spirit took its homeward flight from a pain wracked and frail body.
Mrs. Sloan was born in Arkansas, May 2, 1850, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, to Pilot Grove when she was but one year old, which place has been her home almost the entire 76 years.  She was married to G.W. Sloan, and they reared a family of 8 children, all of whom survive.  They are: F.M. Sloan, O.N. Sloan, M.B. Sloan, Mrs. Annie Wilson, Mrs. Lee Hulet, Pilot Grove; Mrs. Carrie Meeks, Sherman, and Mrs. Nora  Dennis and Mrs. Emmie Warden of Corpus Christi.  She leaves one brother, Sam Jackson, of Oklahoma and one sister, Mrs. Allie McDonald, New Mexico.  Thirty-three grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Sloan had been a member of the Methodist Church since her young girlhood.   She lived her religion daily and her gentle nature, pure, clean life has ever been an uplift to the community.
Funeral services were conducted at the tabernacle Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. M.C. Sooter, assisted by Rev. J.A. Henderson.  Music and special songs were rendered by Mr. Frank Mann and daughter, Mrs. Laura Hill, of Van Alstyne.
Active pallbearers were A.L. Scott, D.B. Andrews, A.M. St. John, Joe Burks and S.F. Garland.
Honorary pallbearers were W.P. Ownby, S.T. McSpedden, S.G. Ashinhurst, W.H. Hopper, Z.W. Binion and R.E.L. Binion.
A large number of relatives and friends from Trenton, Whitewright, Denison, Tom Bean, Howe, Sherman, and Van Alstyne attended the services.

CARD OF THANKS
We desire to thank the kind neighbors and friends of Pilot Grove for their help and assistance during the past weeks, when they gave freely of their time and denied themselves needed rest in order to keep vigil with us.
For four long weeks your needed assistance sustained us and helped to make easier the long nights of pain and suffering of our loved one.
Our words of thanks are inadequate to express our love for the people of Pilot Grove or to convey to them our appreciation.  The lovely flowers coming from the churches and from each individual were deeply appreciated.   May God bless each one. - - - The Sloan Children and Grandchildren
