Lieutenant Louis Rugan

Another old soldier has answered the last roll call and laid down his arms.  Louis Rugan died April 16, at the home of his only child, Mrs. O.B. Gabbert, 713 West Nelson street, and was buried in Oakwood cemetery Monday by the comrades of the G.A.R. and the A.O.U.W., of which orders he was a worthy member.  He was 68 years and 6 months old when he died.  He served in the 5th Missouri Cavalry as 1st Lieutenant of Company C.  He was also commissary and quarter master of the regiment, and was succeeded by S.S. Clark.  He was in the service of the United States 3 years and 2 months.  He has been a member of Nathanial Lyon Post for 11 years.  He has been a faithful employe of the M.K.& T. railroad for a numbre of years.  His wife died about a year and a half ago and since that time he had been gradually failing.

Wednesday, October 21, 1896

Mrs. Rugan, who has been a resident of Denison for a number of years, died last night at her home on Nelson street.  Death was very sudden.
