DEATH OF MRS. NELMS
Died, at the residence of Mr. J.H. Henry, February 6, 1897, Mrs. Francis D. Nelms, aged 71 years.  Mrs. Nelms was the widow of J.H. Nelms, and was one of the pioneers of Denison, they having cast their lot with us in the spring of 1873.  She was born in Georgia and came to Texas in 1844.
Both she and her husband were possessed of noble hearts and generous impulses, and their home was noted for its hospitality.  Fourteen children were born to them, of whom only 4 survive.
Few people are more happy in their married life than were Mr. and Mrs. Nelms, and at their golden wedding, which was celebrated in 1891, they were the recipients of a host of heartfelt congratulations.
The death of her husband which occurred not long afterwards, seemed to break the heart of Mrs. Nelms, and she has ever since looked forward to the time when they should be united again in death as they had been in life.
The remains were followed to the cemetery by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, many pioneers paying their last respects.  The four surviving children, Thomas, Harry, Richard and Mrs. Henry, were present.  In the old graveyard sleeps James, whose death was a blow from which his doting parents never recovered.  It is opportune to state that Mrs. Nelms was conscious to the last, which was a great consolation to the family.  For a number of years she divided her time visiting her children.  When her daughter, Mrs. Mixon, died she made her home with Mrs. Jake Henry, who was devoted to her mother and was willing to make any sacrifice for her comfort and happiness.  Mrs. Nelms was a notable example of a well preserved old lady; the infirmity of age sat lightly upon her.  Her mind was clear up to the day of death.
