GUN FIRES ACCIDENTALLY, YOUTH DIES
Cotton Mill Youth Accidentally Discharges Gun While Hunting and Attempts to Crawl Way Back to Help

WELL KNOWN BALL PLAYER
Colbert Citizens Hold Wide Search for Body of Youth When He Fails to Appear
Apparently expiring as he struggled inch by inch to reach his grandparents' home, J.W.Rushing, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Rushing of the Cotton Mill community, was found deah shortly after midnight Thursday.
The youth left Sunday for his grandparents' home in Colbert, Oklahoma to spend  the week.  Wednesday afternoon he told relatives he was going hunting with the .22 rifle he owned.
When he failed to return on time, his grandparents rounded up neighbors and began a wide search.  The body of the youth, still and apparently dead for several hours, was found shortly after the search began.
The body was found in a field where the youth had evidently discharged his gun accidentally, the bullet entering his right side.  His attempt to crawl to the house could be seen, but he succumbed a short distance from his grandparents', Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Rushing, home.
Young Rushing was well known in baseball circles here, having come from a baseball family and recently named head of the Junior Cotton Mill team.
He was born  July 12, 1923 at Denison and attended the Denison schools and was a member of the Sunnyside Baptist Church.
Surviving are his parents; three brothers, Charles, Suverne, and Ronald.  Also a sister, Neva Dell Rushing, survives.
Funeral arrangements had not been made Thursday morning.
The body of the lad was brought to Denison early this morning and prepared for burial at the Short-Murray funeral home.
