John H. Owen, 82, retired confectioner and resident of Denison 41 years, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, at his home, 430 W. Day street, following an illness since January.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Short-Murray chapel, Rev. Ben F. Hearn officiating.  Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery, Short-Murray directing.  A Masonic service will be held at the grave.
Deceased was born October 15, 1857 as son of Mr. and Mrs. William Owen at Trenton, Georgia.  He left Trenton with his parents for Marion county, Georgia, where he was reared and educated.  He farmed in Marion county for about 5 years and then moved to Wammville, Alabama, where he was married to Miss Sarah B. Earls August 25, 1878.  The couple resided there 12 years, coming to Whitesboro in 1899 and later in the same year, to Denison where they have since resided.
Mr. Owen entered service with the Katy car department in July 1901.  He opened a confectionery business here with his two sons at 509 W. Main, later moving to 609.  Mr. Owen retired from active business in 1929 and sold his establishment.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Masonic lodge.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Will B. and Alber M. of Denison; two daughters, Mrs. A.O. Martin of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. Ottie Graham of Columbus; a half-brother, G.W. Gamm of Victoria, Tennessee; a half-sister, Mrs. Maggie Harrison of Victoria; several grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John H. Owen were conducted at 2 p.m. today from Short-Murray chapel, Rev. Ben F. Hearn officiating.  Interment was at Oakwood, Short-Murray directing. Pallbearers were  George Tinkle, O.M. Rutheford, W.L. Regensberger, A.L. Ford, J.F. Womack and W.E. Steed.
