OLIVER KERR THOMAS DEAD
Consumption claimed another victim last Tuesday when Ollie Thomas breathed his last at the home of his mother, Mrs. A. Thomas, No. 807 W. Bond St. at 11 a.m.
Ollie was born in Clarksburg, Monitau county, Missouri, February 15, 1876 and was 23 years of age at the time of his death..  He was a noble young man, generous and unselfish, sacrificing everything, even life itself, for those he loved.  He came to Texas with his parents when a small child and had grown to manhood here.  His education was received in the public schools, and when quite young he entered the drug firm of T.B. Hanna & Son, and was accounted by his employers an exceptionally bright boy.  By his carefulness and integrity he won their highest esteem, and when his health began to fail and he was forced to seek some other employment, Mr. Hanna told him his place was ready for him at any time he wished to return.  He entered the post office employ and gave satisfaction to all, but could not stand the confinement very long.  He then accepted a position with the American Express Co., which he held about a year, when his health gave way and that dreadful scourge, consumption, claimed him for its own.  He made a brave struggle for life, but all in vain.  Several months ago he went to El Paso, Texas, on the advice of his physician, in hope that the salubrious climate might prolong his life, but in a short time it became evident that the sands of life were running low and his mother was telegraphed for and left immediately for El Paso.  As soon as her son was able to stand the journey, she brought him home, to die.  He lived just one week after returning; cheerful to the last, always hopeful that he would get well and strong, death took him in the very prime of manhood.
The mother mourns a loving, dutiful son, and brothers and sisters a kind and affectionate companion.  His life was one full of promise suddenly ended in the silence of the tomb.
The funeral services were held from the home of the deceased Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Interment was made in the family lot in Oakwood Cemetery.
Many beautiful flowers from loving friends who sincerly mourn his death cover the new made grave in the city of the dead, where he slumbers sweetly after life's fitful dream.
