Sunday, August 5, 1888

Miss Ida Mayton, aged 19 years, died Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the famiy residence, West Main street, in this city. In these columns, two months ago, an account was given of an operation performed upon this young woman by Dr. Nagle, in which a leg was amputated, the operation having been rendered necessary by a scratch followed by neglect which resulted in gangrene. It seems that the same neglect which caused the scratch upon the limb to develope into gangrene, was the cause of death. She had been indifferently attended all along but was still progressing in the right direction, when Wednesday night week the air became very cool towards morning and being unable to make anyone in the house aware of her chilly condition, and being uable to get any additional covering herself, she caught a severe cold from the effects of which she died. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the interment being at Oakwood Cemetery.
