DEATH OF ROBERT J. GARBUT
Robert J. Garbut, a pioneer citizen, and foreman of the H. & T. C. round house since 1878, died suddenly Wednesday morning at his home, number 124 east Sears street.  A few hours previous to the sad event, Mr. Garbut was apparently in good health and spirits.  Tuesday night he complained of severe pain in the region of the heart,  but did not attach much importance to the attack; a physician was called, however, who thought that Mr. Garbut would feel better in the morning.  He rested very well during the night, but without hardly a struggle passed away in the morning.
Robert J. Garbut was one of the best known and most popular railway employes that ever cast his lot here.  Always guided by the most noble and generous impluses, he attracted a large circle of friends that as the years passed by appreciated more his worth and bore testimony to his nobility of character and unswerving fidelity.  His true worth was better known to those with whom he was constantly associated in railway circles.  His death is deeply lamented by the employers and the railway fraternity generally.
At the timeof his death, Mr. Garbut was sixty-three years of age.  He had followed railroading for a great many years.  The best period of his life was passed in the service of the H. & T.C. Railway.  He came to this country when a young man from England.  Over thirty years of his life was passed in Texas.
The deceased leaves a wife and one daughter.  He was a member of the A.O.U.W.
The funeral obsequies of R.J. Garbut took place Friday forenoon from the family residence on east Sears street.  There was a large gathering of citizens to pay the last respects.  Rev. John Benners Gibble conducted the religious services.  The burial took place under the auspices of the A.O.U.W., of which the deceased was a member.  The burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.
