WHITESBORO - Funeral services for James Edwin Vessells, 80, retired farmer who died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday at his home near Southmayd, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Highway Baptist church north of Whitesboro.  Arrangements are being made by Summy.
Mr. Vessells is survived by his widow and seven of his 10 children: two daughters, Mrs. Vola Wallace of Itasca and Mrs. Rose Stafford of New Mexico; and five sons, Jim Vessells of Hillsboro, Will Vessells of Hobbs, New Mexico, Edwin Vessells of Madill, Oklahoma, Carl Vessells and Bill Vessells of Southmayd; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Vessells was born September 23, 1857, at Fateville, Alabama, and came to Texas in 1878.  He settled at Southmayd, moved to Oklahoma for a few years, and then returned to Southmayd.  He married Miss Martha Whitfell December 28, 1883.  Mr. Veasells was a member of the Baptist church.
