Mt. Carmel Cemetery, about three-quarters of a mile west of Desert, was established around 1858.  There were about 100 burial sites, dating from J. Morrison's in 1858, followed by Elizabeth Morrison and Jon S. McCollom in 185.  J.S. and M.A. McCollom buried 3 more children at Mt. Carmel - 12-year-old WIlliam in 1870, 9-year-old Url in 1876, and 8-year-old Missouri in 1887.  After the opening of the Crossroads Cemetery in 1892, there were still a few interments at Mt. Carmel.
