Grayson County TXGenWeb

also known as Rockport & Chambers

Located off of Old Dorchester Road near the intersection of Dorchester Road and Ford Road.
Cemetery is on the stretch of Dorchester Road that runs east to west, on the south side of the road.
There is evidence that cows roam through this abandoned cemetery.

Named for the campsite of a group of "Mormons" who had separated from the main church group in Illnois, known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  The body of the main church continued on from Illinois to settle in Utah.  Many splinter groups formed and drifted elsewhere and formed their own churches.  One was led by Lyman Wight who came into Grayson County in the fall of 1845 and wintered in the "Mormon" grove. From there they moved southwest into the Texas Hill Country.
