DENISON NEGRO KILLS HIS WIFE THEN HIMSELF
This morning at 6:30 in Denison Ed Hightower, a negro, shot his wife, Florence Hightower, killing her instantly and then shot and killed himself.  He used a Winchester rifle to shoot his wife and the ball struck her in the back of the neck.  He then put the Winchester down and shot himself through the left breast, in the region of the heart with a 45-calibre Colt pistol.
Hightower and his wife were raised in Denison, but had been in South Texas for some time, returning to that place only a few days ago.
The killing occurred at their home on Bryan Avenue, near Crawford street and followed a quarrel between Hightower and his wife.  Hightower's wife was a widow before he married her, and she had one child, Dora Gallaway, 12 years of age, who survives her mother.  The child was asleep in the house when the killing occurred.
Justice of the Peace Harve Wisdom held an inquest and stated this afternoon that he would find that the woman came to her death by a gunshot wound, the gun being in the hands of her husband, Ed Hightower, and that Hightower killed himself with a pistol.

The Negro Proved He Was Bad Man
Told His Wife and Daughter to Run and Opened Fire on Them
The Woman was Killed Instantly and a Bullet Barely Missed the Girl
Negro Then Ended His Own Life.

Denison, Texas, Nov. 20 - Ed Hightower, a negro declared that he was a "bad man."  Ed had a rifle and revolver and started out to prove it.  Going home he told his wife and daughter to run.  As his wife went through the gate he shot her, killing her instantly.  Another shot barely missed his daughter.  The negro then blazed a trail of smoke and bullets down one of the principal resident streets of the city until all were used up except one.  He sent this one through his own brain, dying a few minutes later.
