Funeral services for Frances Maude Coleman Davis of Madill, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery in Gordonville, Texas. Davis was a retired nurse, LPN.
She passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.
Our mother's life is a story of a mother's love for her children and her love for life. Mama was an always an adventurer. When she was approximately 16, she left her beloved grandmother Crabtree who had raised her after her mother died
very young, and went to a girls school in Shawnee, Okla., to learn homemaking skills. She then moved to Talihina, Okla., where she worked at the TB hospital with her much loved aunt Irene, and met our father there, Milo P. Coleman. She
raised her family and then in her early 40's she went to school to become a nurse, the profession she was in until she retired in her mid 60's. To this day we still have people come up to us and tell us what an awesome job she did taking care of one of their loved ones.
Mom did everything she did with excellence whether it was cooking, sewing, or working in her much loved nursing profession. Our mother's love for her children never wavered from the day we were born to the day she left us. Even though she had to raise her six children basically by herself with very little money, we knew she was always there for us and would have never thought of allowing anyone but her to raise us, even though it was very difficult at times for her. Mama was always so happy to see her kids and grandkids and could be heard to say as she got older that she had to go
get her hair fixed since she would be seeing her kids and wanted to look good for us. Even as she started having severe health issues her concern was always "How are my kids?" Up until the day she could no longer speak to us, her conversation would always turn to "is everyone okay?" and "how are you doing today?" Mom never had to think was something right or wrong for very long as there were no gray areas in her life as to what she should do. It was black and white, good or bad for her and her loved ones. The way we learned about God were the old hymns she would sing to us when we were babies and by the way she lived her life. After she retired and was living on a very small income, she would receive something in the mail from the Veterans or some other worthy cause asking for a donation, and she would put a few dollars in an envelope and send it off so she could help someone in need. Mama was also known to feed homeless people who came to our back door. She would hand them a plate of food even though she struggled so hard to make ends meet for her family.
We had numerous nurses come by her room in the hospital during her last few days there who had taken care of her over the last several months she had been in and out of the hospital and some of them would cry and tell us what a special person she is. One of the young nurses, Betty, told us she had worked in nursing homes for many years but had quit to work at the hospital as she always found an older woman she called her princess and she would wind up losing her, and
it would hurt too badly. She said she didn't think it would happen in the hospital, but then she met our mother who became her princess and it happened all over again. So to all of the nurses and Dr. Nedley who treated our mother as the princess she is and was, a heart full of gratitude is sent out to all of you. We thank God for allowing us to have and to keep our Angel for 93-1/2 years. Our Mama will be missed so desperately but we know she is at peace, strong and young again and seeing her loved ones who have gone on before her. God is so good in that He gave us a real glimpse into this eternal Truth just as her beautiful spirit left us.
Survivors include her companion, Millard Baker of Madill; son Milo "Bob" Coleman and wife Karen of Mannsville, Okla.; daughter Kay Ashford and husband Clyde of Mannsville, Okla.; daughter Sandy Day and husband John of Ardmore, Okla.; grandchildren Kevin Martin and wife Tammy of Wichita Falls, Texas, Shelia Martin of Henrietta, Texas, Rhonda Reynolds
of Wichita Falls, Texas, Gary Hall of Mannsville, Oklahoma, Donella Jackson and husband Terry of Tyler, Texas, Larry Hall of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Jason Hall and wife Adriana of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Greg Matchen and wife Becky of Dickson, Oklahoma, LeAnne Eubanks and husband Jimmy of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Chad Coleman and wife Laura of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Tamara Cooper and husband Fred of Wichita Falls, Oklahoma, Amanda Garcia and husband Cray of Wichita Falls, Texas.
