THE SERE AND THE YELLOW LEAF
Death of Daniel Jones

After a protracted illness, incident to old age, Mr. Daniel Jones departed this life, August 17.  His last moments on earth were made happy and peaceful by the presence of his children and the kindest attention of the entire community.
The deceased was born May 6, 1814 and passed the pleasant days of childhood in Lequatchee Valley, Tennessee.  In 1836, February 4, he was married to Jane Bunyard.  Had he lived until February 4, next, it was the intention to have celebrated the golden wedding, an event which was looked forward to with the fondest anticipation, but which was destined never to come off.
The deceased was one of the pioneer citizens of the Lone Star state.  Moving here in 1849, he settled in Houston county where he resided until 1870, when he moved to this county and located 5 miles east of Denison.
During his sickness he expressed himself contented to go, and with Christian resignation awaited the summons which must come to all.  He frequently said that he knew of nothing that would be lacking to complete the work of his life.
He was connected with the Missionary Baptist church for a period of 44 years and was a minister of the same denomination for 43 years.  He was very devoted to his work and was never wanting in his duty.
The funeral services were of the most impressive character.  The entire people turned out to do homage to the memory of one who was endeared to them by so many ties of friendship.  Over the remains of the deceased the following epitaph can be truthfully written:
"Here lies a man who did not have an enemy in the world."
