BROWN PIERCE KILLED BY KATY PASSENGER
Well Known Negro Peddler Victim of Grade Crossing Accident Yesterday

Brown Pierce, one of the best known negroes in Grayson County, was killed yesterday afternoon about 1:25 o'clock when a buggy in which he was riding was struck by a Katy passenger train at the diagonal grade crossing on the 80' road a mile and a half north of Sherman, where the Bonham and Sherman branches of the Katy coverage.
Brown, who had been in Sherman, had started home and was squarely on the track when passenger train No. 33, in charge of Conductor J.L. Findley and Engineer W.T. Fullington, struck him .  The buggy was entirely demolished and the aged negro was hurled quite a distance.  He was brought to Sherman on the train that struck him and rushed to the Sherman hospital, but he died on the way there.
Later the body was taken to his home, three and a half miles northeast of Sherman, and burial was in Iron Ore Cemetery this afternoon.
"Brown," as he was known to the citizens of Sherman, had been coming to this city for the past 30 years, peddling vegetables and fruits, and was known all over the city by his fog horn voice, which though he was 70 years of age at the time of his tragic death, had never failed in the least.  He owned a small farm in the Iron Ore community,
He is survived by several children.  His wife died some time ago.
