Kenneth Dale Brasher, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday afternoon, February 3, comforted by his loving wife and oldest son.
Kenneth was born December 11, 1946, in Bakersfield, California, to Fred and Edith (Mooney), and traveled the western and southern United States harvesting fruit and other produce with his father, who was full of life and the quintessential "rambling man." At the age of approximately 10, the family settled in Sherman, where he attended school, got married and ultimately raised his family.
For more than 35 years Kenneth was a trusted and dedicated employee of the City of Sherman in Parks and Recreation. He refused to be absent from work even at the expense of his own health and well-being. He loved his job and often said he thought he had "landed in heaven" when he became employed with the city after a short time with the now-closed Burlington Industries textile plant. He loved the outdoors, especially the Elks Lodge on Lake Texoma, and upon his retirement, he spent many summers there. He loved being outdoors with his family, camping, boating, and tinkering with all things mechanical, including his many motorcycles.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father; step-father Clifford Haddox; and mother, whom he adored, missed terribly and spoke of often.
He married his sweetheart, Linda (Hughes), June 19, 1965, and parted ways, as promised in his wedding vows, only after being called home by his Lord after 46 wonderful years. Linda continues to reside in their home in White Mound, near Sherman. He is also survived by his brotherm Jame;, sisters Annice Hammonds and Barbara Burks; sons Fredrick Dale and Michael; daughter Susan Webb; grandchildren, Christopher and Angelia Thompson and Natalee Brasher; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank those who loved and cared for Kenneth as he courageously fought colon cancer, including his primary physician, Dr. Russell, oncologist Dr. Barker and his team, Texoma Cancer Center and Home Hospice of Grayson County, especially Al Ellis who was with the family until the very end, and Linda Andrews, his Cigna Case Manager, whose numerous hours of counsel, support and comforting words helped Kenneth and his family cope with what, at times, seemed an insurmountable journey.
Arrangements were under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home, 302 S. Walnut St., Sherman, TX 75090.
