She was staying at her daughter's home while figting a battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Alzheimer's. Funeral services were held at Dannel Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Interment followed services at Holloway Cemetery in Luella, Texas. Rev. Jewel was born on October 29, 1930 to Sullivan Edward Armstrong and Mildred Lee Evans Armstrong in Memphis, Texas. She was the fourth born child and the eldest daughter of nine children. Jewel was like a mother hen with everybody. She would protect you, give you the shirt off of her back or her last dollar if you needed it. She enjoyed her antiques and all of her knick-knacks and junk. She loved being with her kids and grandkids and family. Jewel's family moved to Honey Grove in 1939. She attended schools in Honey Grove and in Pecan Gap.
Jewel met the love of her life Richard Hughes McCracken in Honey Grove, and they were married a short time later on January 3, 1949. Richard preceded her in death on August 14, 1997, but they are now rejoined, happy and healthy, and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
Jewel and Richard had four children, Linda, Brenda, Richard and Tina. She worked at Burlington Industries and Bonham Cotton Mill until she started going to trade days and dealing in antiques.

"Jewel" by Garry Neal
They had but few possessions, the times they were real tough,
but with the strong love of family, no roads seem to rough.
She was a hard working woman for all of her 81 years,
she never met a stranger and she never had any fears.
She was never one to complain or worry about herself,
She always thought of others, and kept her problems on the shelf.
She had a tough exterior that she would let you see.
So that you wouldn't notice that her heart was as big a an oak tree.
More giving a person we have never known,
we are going to miss her, but the Lord he called home.
Now is the time for grieving, for we've lost someone so dear
its always hard to carry on, at the passing of one so near.
We are all left with a gap, a void we can never fill,
she will always be in our thoughts, her life it was so real.
She knew that she was loved by all her family and her friends,
but, don't we all wish we could tell her that we Love her Once Again.
