John H. Simmons, 61, pioneer citizen and merchant of Tom Bean died suddenly at 9:30 o'clock Thursday night at his home in Tom Bean.  He had been in ill health for some time, but was able to remain at his store until closing time Thursday night.
Mr. Simmons was a charter member of the Tom Bean Baptist Church.  He had been superintendent of the Sunday School of the Baptist Church for more than 22 years.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Baptist Church at Tom Bean.  Rev. Howard McSpedden conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J.L. Truett of Whitewright and Rev. I.E. Teague and Rev. C. Chumbley of Kentuckytown.  Interment was in Holloway Cemetery.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Simmons; a daughter, Mrs. W.C. Hartwig of Tom Bean; 3 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. S.E. Simmons of Sherman; 3 brothers, J.M. Simmons and W.T. Simmons of Whitewright and Gilbert Simmons of Tom Bean; and 3 sisters, Mrs. T.C. Gant of Tom Bean, Mrs. C.F. Bridges of Denison and Miss Tela Simmons of Sherman.
