Mrs. Lena Rutherford, 88, of Howe, route 1, died Tuesday evening in a Sherman hospital following a brief illness.
Services were held Friday at 3 p.m. in Dannel Funeral Chapel with Dr. Tom Brandon, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. Sam Randolph, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Howe.  Burial was in Hall Cemetery.
Mrs. Rutherford was born June 21, 1882, on the same farm near Howe where she was living at the time of her death.  She was the daughter of the late R.S.A. and Sarah Allen Barnette, early pioneer settlers of this area.  She attended Howe schools and was married to Walter Rutherford in Howe on January 15, 1905.  Mr. Rutherford preceded her in death January 17, 1935.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sherman.
She is survived by two sons, Weldon Rutherford of Howe and Wilson M. Rutherford of El Campo; two daughters, Mrs. Lena Grace Mode of Howe and Mrs. L.C. Giles of Sherman; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
