John W. Calloway, 75, a retired farmer of the Howe Community, died at his home at 12:20 a.m. Saturday.
Mr. Calloway was born November 11, 1859 in Greenville, South Carolina, and came to Texas 47 years ago, settling near Howe. He married Miss Ida Frances Barton in South Carolina, December 25, 1884. To this union, nine children were born, eight of whom are living, one died in infancy. Mr. Calloway was a member of the Baptist Church in Howe.
Surviving are the widow, six sons, E.C. and Claude Calloway of Dorchester, Marshall Calloway of Dallas, Walter, Omar and Pete Calloway of near Howe. Two daughters, Mrs. George F. Stockton and Miss Corine Calloway of near Howe, and six grandchildren and one great grandson. Calvin Pitman of Sherman, a half-brother, also survives.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Baptist Church at Howe, conducted by the Rev. Paul McClasland of Fort Worth. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery.
