Mary Elizabeth Tillman loved horses and spent her childhood riding.  She excelled in Equestrian competitions for many years.  She even trained for the Olympic Equestrian Team.  This love for horses continued throughout her life. Some of her happiest times were riding her favorite horses on trails with her friends.  Mary graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky and enjoyed telling us Texans that Stephen F. Austin was there also!
In May 1968 she met and married John Stephen Tillman, III of New York City.  Over the years they became the proud parents of John and Adam.  After moving around pursuing their dreams, they finally landed in Plano, Texas. Mary was employed by Plano ISD for a number of years.  After they moved to Princeton, Texas, she was employed by Princeton ISD, teaching American History at Clark Middle School until her retirement.  She was a true lover of children, history and animals.  She enjoyed her students, traveled with them on many history trips and was such a wonderful role model for so many.  After retirement they moved to the country outside of Pottsboro.  She continued with her horse hobby, subbing for Pottsboro schools and volunteering at the Pottsboro Library.  Her love of learning never faltered. She was an avid reader and historian.  She will be missed by so many former students, teaching companions and friends.
Graveside services were held Thursday morning, July 14, 2022 at Georgetown Cemetery, Pottsboro, Texas.  Chad Lee, a former student, officiated.
In lieu of f lowers the family has asked that donations be made to her favorite charity: Denison Animal Welfare Group (DAWG).
