 The
first school in Tom Bean was a one room building. School began in
1877. A. L. (Gus) Clayton was the first teacher. A few
years later, Miss Kate Taylor came as an assistant. In 1935, a
new high school was built; in 1953 a new grammar school was built; in
1972 a kindergarten was added.
