Southmayd was the first rural accredited high school in Grayson County. One of the earliest schools in Southmayd was built in 1904. Mr. Carl McAlister remembered that while he was superintendent of Southmayd seven schools were consolidated with the district.  They were:
  • Prairie View
  • Valley Summit
  • Lone Star
  • Unity
  • Plainview
  • Sunflower
  • Pleasant
Sadler and Southmayd schools consolidated in 1960.
