POISONED BY COTTON SEED OIL

Thursday morning the family of Mr. Jim Ball, living three miles northwest of Denison, were severely poisoned by eating bread at breakfast made with fresh cotton seed oil.  Mr. Ball resides on the C.D. Reasor dairy farm and Mr. Reason, who is an employe of the Sherman Cotton Seed Oil Company, is a great advocate of cotton seed for almost every purpose in domestic economy.  A fresh barrell had just been sent up from Sherman and Thursday morning it was opened.  The first taken from the barrel was kneaded with the flour in preparing bread for breakfast.  Those who partook of the bread were, Mr. Ball, Edgar Reasor, Miss Etta Dickerson, three children of Mr. and Mrs. Ball, and two hired men.  Miss Etta Dickerson is the daughter of Mr. L. Dickerson of No. 820 West Sears street, and was teaching the Reasor community school, boarding with Mr. and Mrs. Ball.
Immediately after breakfast Mr. Ball and one of the hired men came to town and were doing some trading when they were both taken violently ill.  They left immediately for home and on reaching there found those mentioned above suffering as themselves.  Medical aid was secured and everything possible was done to arrest the progress of the poison.
Mrs. Ball and a hired girl did not eat of the bread and were not affected.  Edgar Reasor was in poor health and his suffering was the greatest.  Three years ago he accidentally drank a few swallows of concentrated lye and from its effects he has never fully recovered.
Miss Etta Dickerson was brought home, and as she had only eaten a small portion of the bread, she will probably be ready for her school duties in a few days.
The Ball homestead still has the appearance of a hospital, but no fatality is expected.
