It is unknown when the Pleasant Valley School system was established. There were two school buildings in the district. The one-teacher school was located in southwest Sherman near where the Burlington Industries are. The two-teacher school was located about two miles southwest of the Sherman city limits in was is referred to as the "Industrial Center."

Edna Mercer was the primary teacher for three years beginning in 1923. The Board of Trustees asked her to accept the position of Principal of the two-room school which she accepted. Her education career spanned from 1923 to 1939.

There were about twenty-five students in the primary grades and about thirty students in the upper grades (fifth, sixth, seventh, and some years, eighth).

When the Depression struck the area, there was not enough money for two teachers. The primary teacher was dismissed. When money became available, a primary teacher was, again, hired.
