Kentuckytown community was founded in 1852. It appears that a school was established shortly afterwards.  A church was built in 1855. It was voted to allow classes to be held by private teachers with parents paying a tuition.  Sometimes the teacher would conduct classes at night for the older students and adults. The spencerian method of writing was taught.   A new school two-story building was erected in 1860-1861.

In the minutes of the Kentuckytown Baptist Church, dated 11 October 1879, the church members voted to grant the use of the church building to be used as a school room for ten months to school trustees Quincy Vittitoe, W.T. Noe and Joseph Harris.  The church ordered that the school trustees insure the church building with a reliable insurance company, keep the house in good order, and repair all dmanges that occurred while the building was being used as a school room.
