Burton School was on the Cooke/Grayson County line, west of Tioga.  Upon completion of the 8th grade, some of the students from Burton went to Collinsville High School while others went to Pilot Point, Denton Co., Texas to complete their high school education.

Gene Autry went to school at Burton, riding his horse there from Indian Creek.

Old Burton School was on the northeast corner of what is now CR 203 & CR 234, just east of Jim Johnson's place,  Another school and church was Tipton Chapel, which was located just south of what is now FM 922 and Harpole Road.  Tipton Chapel Church doors were closed in the early 1950s.  In June 1954 Arretta Baxter took the money that was left in the church funds and donated it to Indian Creek Baptist Church.  Bill Baxter bought the Tipton Chapel church building and property.

An election was held on October 2, 1941 in three school districts to consolidate (old) Burton #30, Lemons #32, and Mt. Zion #37.
Trustees for Burton were T.L. Autry, J.R. Johnson, and C.C. Jones
Trustees for Lemons were C.A. Kelly, B.F. Norvell and H.P. Clack.
Trustees for Mt. Zion were Will Bean, A.F. Umsted and E.E. Walker

This election passed and the three old buildings were torn down and the lumber used to construct the "new" Burton school house.

On April 27, 1963, another election was held to decide whether or not to consolidate Burton with Red Ware School.  Thus ended Burton School.  The building was later sold and the lumber was used in the construction of a house.
