To the Democrat:
Burke, May 8 - School at this place closed on April 28.  We have had three of the most successful terms of school taught here by Miss Carrie Hestand that have ever been known in the history of this school, notwithstanding the fact we have had such eminent teachers as Mr. Barnett of Van Alstyne, Mr. Stephens of Weston and Mrs. Waldo of Oklahoma.  The school closed with a nice picnic where everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  The only thing that kept the joy of the pupils from being complete was the fact that they must soon part from their teacher.  Miss Hestand was assisted two months of the last term by her sister Miss Bettie, who proved herself to be a teacher of fine ability.  Our people regret to give such teachers up and should they continue to teach, we count the school or community fortunate indeed that secures their services.
Mrs. E.B. Neely is visiting her sister, Mrs. Will Nicholson in Oklahoma.
Prospects for a crop in these parts are good and with enough rain we expect a good yield.
Quite a number from here attended the funeral of T.P. Howle at Van Alstyne last Tuesday.  This place is near his country home where he resided for 20 years.
