Post Oak Grove Community

First known as the Post Oak Grove Baptist Church, the Shiloh Baptist Church was organized on May 23, 1871 in the Post Oak Grove Community.  Its location was one mile north of Gordonville and four miles west of Cedar Mills. The congregation met in a one-room log cabin.

The Presbyters were: Elder J. B. Pruett and Elder John Elder, who were ministers in the community.

Charter members were: Thomas Johnson, Mary Johnson, Francis Crain, Pauline Willard, Francis Noel. At the first meeting, R. H. Hall and wife and Jerry Bond were received by Letter. M. V. Tippet was received by experience and baptism.

New settlers arrived in the area and the congregation grew in size by 26 members. Early members, also, included: Martin Funk and family, who later moved their letters to the Basin Springs (Mineral) Church; R. L. Butts and family, who moved their letter to the Mt. Zion #1 church at Rock Creek in 1873.

Mrs. May Johnson Davidson, born in the 1890s to Horace and Jan Johnson, furnished most of the church history information. She was baptized in the Shiloh Church at the age of 12 1/2 years. She is the oldest remaining member of the Shiloh Church known.
