County Line Baptist Church

Interview with Kate Pearl Russell Dillon

For a good while in the early 1900's used, the other denominations decided they did not want to use the Baptist literature, so the Baptist folks moved to their own land and building.  Church services at the County Line School ceased to be held.

Mr. Thompson gave the land for the church, which was built in 1937.  Some of the men who helped with the church building were Neal Russell, W.L. Rice, Mr. Worthy and Mrs. Woody.  The 1937 building still stands today and services are held weekly in the old building.  The first service held in the building was a "singing", for which County Line Church was famous for.  At that time the windows hadn't been put in the building.  A wood burning stove was used for warmth but presently they have propane to heat the building.

The first pastor was Bro. Remley from Whitesboro; he built the pews and the pulpit for the church.  The original pews are gone but the original pulpit is still used.

Some of the other early pastors were:
Bro. Branch from Gainesville area
Bro. Erby
Bro. Montgomery from Sherman area
Bro. Charles Hite, who pastored the church for years until his death
