Walnut Street Church of Christ
Sherman, Texas

In the early 1850s, the Sherman Church existed in Sherman, Texas.  During the post Civil War years, the congregation met in downtown buildings.

The first building was erected at the corner of Houston and Montgomery Streets.
The second building stood until being destroyed by fire in 1999.   The Montgomery Street Church of Christ prospered and grew to approximately five hundred members.

In 1920, a new building was erected at the corner of Walnut and Cherry Streets.  In January 1920, G. A. Dunn spoke in a three-week meeting in the basement of the Walnut St Church of Christ which was the only part of the building that was completed. The building was completed in October. Preachers included G. C. Brewer, Harvey Scott and J. P. Sanders.

During the 1930 Depression years, Walnut St. Church of Christ was one of a few churches in Grayson County to have a regular preacher on staff.
