Cedar Methodist Church was a log cabin built on land deeded by J. G. Vestal and Col. J. R. Cole.  It was organized in 1871 and located one-half mile south of the church on the Whitemound-Cedar Road.

The frame church building located on Whitemount-Cedar Road was built in 1891 and was destroyed by a tornado in 1960.  A new structure was dedicated in October 1960.  An official Texas Historical Marker for "The Old Cedar Community" was presented at Cedar Methodist Church May 17, 1970
