CARPENTER CHAPPEL
It will be remembered that the Baptist church of this city organized a movement some months ago to build a chappel on East Lamar street.  Last night C.A. Cosby, from the committee, reported that they had bought a lot and paid for it, and that subscriptions had been secured for a small amount to build the house.  Dr. J.C. Carpenter has been active and enthusiastic in the matter and in his absence to Louisiana, the church decided by a unanimous vote to call it Carpenter Chappel.  It will be built as soon as the funds necessary are secured.  Several of Dr. Carpenter's friends have made liberal subscriptions
to the fund
already, and if others desire to help in this laudable enterprise it will be thankfully received by the committee, which consists of Dr. J.C. Carpenter, C.A. Cosby and A.M. DeShields.  Maj. E.F. Brown will act in Dr. Carpenter's place on the committee during the doctor's absence.
No man in Sherman enjoys the confidence and esteem of so many of her citizens as Dr. Carpenter.  Doubtless his hundreds of friends will be glad to help honor this good man.
