Antioch Baptist Started in 1903
Denison's Antioch Baptist Church was organized in 1903 with Rev. W.A. Thomas serving as its first minister.
Pastored today by Rev. James M. DUkes, the church has grown to 250 members.  Mrs. Jessie Mae Badlwin, who was one of the earliest Antioch members, is still active.
Antioch erected its first building in 1909 at its present location, 700 West Walker.  After the first structure burned to the ground, meetings were held in a hall at Vaughan and Barrett for several years.
The present white frame structure was built in 1955 during the pastorate of Rev. C.F. Ervin, who also provided leadership for later extensive remodeling.  The sanctuary was widened and other repairs made.
Rev. L.W. Watkins, who served from 1964 - 1970 was pastor when more remodeling was accomplished on the church interior of the church.
Church programs include 2 mission societies, 2 usher boards, an active Brotherhood Baptist Training Union, 4 choirs, and a Sunday School.
In addition to the minister, church officers include Mrs. Vera McFail, general church clerk; Mrs. Ruby Flowers, church secretary; and Joe Baldwin, treasurer.

In January 1959 a public hearing was held concerning the paving of the 1200 block of W. Bullock, 1300 block of W. Morgan, 500 & 700 blocks on W. Walker and the 1100 block of W. Chesnut; the council chamber was filled with property owners on that Wednesday afternoon meeting of the City Council.   Pastor of the church acted as spokesman for the church and its members.  He stated that the church was ready for its section to be paved and willing to pay for the expense of paving the 700 block of W. Walker, providing a payment plan could be arranged as the members were still paying on the church building.  The Council agreed to a 3-year payment plan for the $141.50 it would cost with monthly payments being less than $5.00.  (The Denison Press, Friday, January 9, 1959, pg. 1
