First Baptist Church
Denison, Texas

601 West Woodard Street

The First Baptist Church of Denison was originally known as "Denison Baptist Church".  The First Baptist Church of Denison was formed on March 25, 1875 with the merger of the Enon Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church.  A
church covenant adopted was based on the same principals as are given in J. M. Pendleton's Manual.  Robert Lvingston was called as the first pastor.

Church services were held in the Good Templar Hall each Sunday until June 20, 1875.  Lumber had been provided and twenty-two seats were made; the flooring was finished and the church house at 631 West Main St. opened for worship at
11 o'clock.  In attendance were twenty-five persons with four who were church members.  This church building was enlarged once.

The lots were on Woodard Street at Mirick Avenue.  This was the location of three houses of worship which served the congregation for over twenty years.

The third church building was a red brick building constructed on the site at Woodard Street.  While under construction, the church congregation used the XXI Club and the Presbyterian Church for services. The brick building served the congregation for about fifty years and was razed in 1957.

The church building now used was the fourth house of worship which was occupied in Fall 1958.
