Phoenix resident, Sue Cheeks, passed away Dec. 31, 2009 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz. after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 2, 1944 in Tulsa, Okla.
Sue is survived by husband Jerry Cheeks of the home; her daughter Andrea Follows of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother Bennie Bennett; brother David Bennett, aunts Macie Jenkins, Betty Gann, all of Tulsa, Okla.; and her father Efton Bennett of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves behind a stepdaughter Melinda Hill; a stepson Jerry Lynn Cheeks; four grandchildren and one great- granddaughter, all of Sherman.
Sue was a proud member of the 1962 graduating class of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma State University before embarking on careers in real estate, cosmetology and insurance. Sue, a multi-faceted professional, earned cosmetology licenses in Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona, real estate broker licenses in Texas and Arizona and an insurance broker license in Arizona. She enjoyed successful careers in all three professions. In March 2009, Sue retired from the insurance industry. She and husband Jerry have lived and worked in Phoenix for the past 23 years. Sue, a highly intelligent, loving, stylish and successful woman, was devoted to her family and friends and dedicated to her work. She also adored her beloved pets.
This lovely lady, with a magnetic personality, will forever be missed by her family and friends ? who believe she is now in the care of God  free of sickness and pain.
A brief remembrance service (open casket) will be held for Sue at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd. in Scottsdale, Ariz. A final remembrance service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman. The family invites friends, colleagues and business associates to attend.
