A resident of Texas 76 years, William Jefferson Walsh, 86 years old, died Sunday at 6 p.m. at the home of his daughter.  Mrs. H.H. Fleming, 315 South Crockett street. He had been ill since March.
Mr. Walsh came to Texas in 1856 with his parents, Madison and Martha Walsh.  The next year the family acquired the farm northwest of Sherman on which the son spent his life until making his home with his daughter.
He had been a member of the Travis Street Methodist church since a child, his father being one of the organizers of the church.
In February 1864 Mr. Walsh enlisted in the Confederate army in McFarlane's company.  At that time McFarlane was serving under General Henry McCullough with headquarters at Bonham.  The following fall he was ordered to Shreveport, La., to Kirby Smith's headquarters, attached to George Baylor's brigade.  Later he was ordered back to Texas for duty under General McCullough at Camp Patterson in Anderson county.
Mr. Walsh married Mary E. Key at Sherman June 10, 1885.  Mrs. Walsh died in 1926.
Funeral services will be held from the Friendship church Tuesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. O.T. Cooper, pastor of Travis Street and the Rev. c.J. Graves of Southmayd.  Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church, where his parents and wife are buried and on ground which was donated by his parents for a cemetery.  Dannel-Scott funeral home will have charge of arrangements.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Flemming and Mrs. Nora Key Weems of Sherman; one sister, Miss Maggie J. Walsh of Sherman, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Guy Kearn, Frank Troutz, J.A. Cavender, J.H. Kimbrough, O.D. Pitt, E.S. Burdette, Lee Agnew and Frank Boggs.
