Leland Strawn of Dorchester, 54-year-old lifelong farmer and rancher, died Monday, Jan. 8, 1996, in Dallas.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Friendship Methodist church in Sherman, with the Rev. Jeffery Pruitt of the church officiating.  Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Mr. Strawn was born on June 28, 1941, in Sherman, the son of Ernest and Leona Taylor Strawn.  He was a 1959 graduate
of Sherman High School.  He married Linda Groner on June 30, 1971, in Sherman.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Martinek, Ben Barton, Tony Dudley, Charlie Hill, David Catching and Mike Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.O. Croft, Ronnie Hunt, Robert Catching, Dr. Joe Stout, Phillip Wildman and Louis Groner.
Surviving are his wife, Linda of Dorchester; sons, Chandler, Spencer and Brent Strawn, all of Dorchester; daughter, Ruth Ann Strawn of Dorchester; father, Ernest Strawn of Sherman; brothers, E.B. and Taylor Strawn, both of Dorchester; sisters, Lucy Walker of Amarillo and Linda Russell of Dallas; aunts, Josie Allen of Crosby, Winona Clements and Annie Cumming, both of Sherman, and Ola Brown of Dorchester; and uncles, Jack and T.L. Taylor of Dorchester.

The family was at Waldo Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and other times, they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Friendship Methodist Church.

SHERMAN - Graveside funeral services for Linda Joyce Groner Strawn will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27 at Friendship Cemetery. Rev. Tom Medley of the First Methodist Church of Howe will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Strawn and Jimmie Aaron. Mrs. Strawn, 67, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ Medical Center.

Linda was born March 23, 1945 in Sherman to the late OB Groner (1991) and Inez (Smith) Groner (1998). Linda loved riding horses and preferred to ride bareback and bare-footed. At the age of 16, she rode fifty miles in the Red River Horse Ride and received a trophy for finishing first. She graduated from S&S High School in 1963 where she had won a speech contest in 1960. After high school, Linda attended East Texas State University in Commerce, earning a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in English. After college, Linda worked as the librarian at Tom Bean and Whitewright high schools. In 1967, she received her Master's in Library Science and worked as the head librarian at Burkburnett High School from 1968 to 1971. On June 30, 1971, Linda married Leland Strawn in Sherman. She and Mr.
Strawn had been married nearly 25 years when he passed away in January 1996.


Mrs. Strawn was a longtime member of Friendship Methodist Church and had served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She had been a dialysis patient for the last 12 years and wanted to encourage all dialysis patients to hang in there.

Mrs. Strawn is survived by three sons, Chandler Strawn and wife Stephanie of Dorchester, Spencer Strawn and wife Christy of Sherman, and Brent Strawn and Holly of Collinsville; one daughter, Ruth Ann Landino and husband Chris of Dorchester; two grandchildren, Leland and Carrina (and a third due in July); one great grandchild, Katia; and one brother, Louis Groner of Sherman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Leland Strawn Jr., and one brother, Harold Groner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Methodist Church at 293 Friendship Rd Sherman, TX 75092.
