Grace Schmitz passed away on August 2, 2011 at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ in Sherman, Texas.
She was born on January 5, 1924 in Paris, Arkansas, daughter of Ada Marie Bench Barrick and Homer Barrick. She graduated from Plainview High School in Plainview, Arkansas in 1942
Grace owned and managed the Elite Beauty Shop in Sherman for 49 years where she made many lifelong friends who valued her talents and her friendship. She retired at the age of seventy seven years.
Survivors include her son, Edward Barrick Smith; daughter, Grace Hale and husband, Stanley, all of Sherman, granddaughter, Catherine Hale Pratt and husband, Peter; great grandchildren, Fletcher Pratt, Shreve Pratt and Alexis Pratt, all of Houston.
Graveside services for Laeuna "Lea" Matthews were held Wednesday morning, August 3, 2011 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Rev. Tom Medley and J. W. Hall officiated. Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Matthews passed away Monday, August 1, 2011 in Sherman.
Lea was born September 12, 1922 in Rosser, Texas, daughter of L.C. and Carrie (Holtuclaw) Curtis. She married Cecil Matthews in Sherman in 1941. She was a long time member of Howe First United Methodist Church.
Lea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C. O. Matthews; two sons Joe and Buzz Matthews; daughter Cindy Matthews; brother Glenn Curtis; daughter-in-law Jen Matthews; and grandson Tim Matthews.
Surviving are her daughter, Tenna Matthews; 5 grandchildren Chance Matthews, Helen Matthews Pierce, Joe Matthews, Randy Matthews and Don Matthews; 12 great-grandchildren Taylor, Tate and Tess Matthews; Matthew Pierce and Melissa Pierce Bennett; Whitney and Caleb Matthews; Cindy, Thomas and Paul Matthews; Ryland and Lauren Matthews; 2 great-great-grandsons, Nathan and Carson Bennett; 2 daughters-in-law, Dorothy Matthews and Vickie Matthews; and one nephew, Jerry Curtis and wife, Judy.
Memorials may be made to Howe First United Methodist Church, 810 Denny, Howe, Texas 75459.  
It is Grace's wish that memorials be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sherman in lieu of flowers.
