Katherine "Tat" Graves Osterhout, 75, of Sherman, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at her residence. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Fri., Jan. 7, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. Chris Everson officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery.


Tat was born Sept. 24, 1935 in Galesburg, Ill., to Hubert F. and Agnes (Culver) Graves. After graduating from Omaha Central High School, she earned a BS degree in industrial psychology from Iowa State University in 1957. She went on to complete a Masters in Education (1976) and a doctorate at East Texas State University (1990). She married Roger Osterhout in Omaha, Neb. on June 30, 1957. They enjoyed more than 53 years of marriage.

She worked as an elementary school teacher in the Milwaukee, Wis. school system before serving as a Girl Scout field executive and a therapist in the field of mental health. Most of her career was devoted to work as a marriage and family therapist in private practice. She also volunteered as a girl scout leader.

A charter member of Grace United Methodist Church, she served on the worship committee and chaired the pastor parish committee. A board member of Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties, she served as board president and chaired the facilities committee. Other organizations she took part in included: the Tuesday Literary Club, P.E.O. International, and the Needlework Guild. She was charter president of Pi Beta Phi alumni of Richardson and president of the Texoma Counseling Association.

Predeceased by her parents, Tat is survived by her husband Roger; a son, Scott Osterhout and wife Donna of Sherman; a daughter, Ann Carnes and husband Colin of Dallas; four grandchildren, Josh and Sarah Osterhout and Kelsie and Carter Carnes.
