Thelma "Louise" Cordell, 86-year-old Sherman resident, passed away on Thursday, March 26, at Texoma Healthcare
Center following a courageous battle with cancer.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, at Dannel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery, with Reverend Michael Moody of Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church officiating.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6 -7 p.m. on Sunday.

Louise was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Sadler to Floyd and Mary Larkin. She graduated from Sadler High School in 1939. On May 11, 1941 she married Harry Cordell in Yuma, Ariz. They were married for 58 years before his death in 1999.

They moved to Texas in 1945 to farm but ended up living in Fort Worth for employment. They then moved to Sherman, where they owned and operated Cordell Grocery on Montgomery Street for a number of years.

Harry later went to work for 7-11 stores and Louise was employed in the Grayson County Vehicle Registration office in
the courthouse. She retired after 20 years of service.


Louise was a member of Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church, where she served as secretary-treasurer for many years.
She was a member of the Medical Plaza Auxiliary and Carpenters Chapter 183, Order of the Eastern Star.


Louise was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Tommy, parents Floyd and Mary Larkin and brother Jay Larkin.

She is survived by one son Terry Cordell; grandsons Brian Cordell and fianc Dawn, Michael and Eric; great granddaughter Brooklynn Cordell and five other great-grandchildren Christopher, Morgan, Jordan, Chazz and Gabriel. She is also survived by her sister Helen Janese, as well as daughter-in-law and caregiver Carol Baxley.

Pallbearers will be Bill Jennings, Jackie Harmon, Eddie Payne, Robert White, Roger Thompson and Christopher Tolley.
