Services for Lois "Granny" Jean Smith, 91, of Denison, who passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Texoma Healthcare in Sherman, were held Wednesday afternoon, August 30, 2017 at Friendship Cemetery.  Rev. Chris Moses of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman officiated.
Granny was born January 18, 1926 in Southmayd, Texas, daughter of T.B. and O.D. Elmore.  She was raised in Southmayd and was the Salutatorian of her class in 1944.  She married Leroy Smith in 1945 and spent the next 4 years working on her father's farm plowing fields and everything else that needed to be done.  Her daddy always trusted her with the plowing because of her innate ability to keep the rows straight.  She and Leroy had 3 children, Jeanne Sisemore, Judy Shelton and Ronnie Smith.  Granny went to work at Pool Manufacturing until 1963 and then went to work for Johnson & Johnson for the next 28 years until her retirement in 1991.
She enjoyed life after retirement and went to all her grandchildren's sporting events, band concerts, graduations and other events.  She loved to travel and went everywhere in North America except Florida.  She traveled to parts of Europe and loved meeting new people.  Everyone who knew her called her "Granny".  She had an infectious enthusiasm for people and for life which is why she lived so long; she was afraid she would miss something.  She was faithful to her church until she was unable to attend because of her health.  She was a lifelong member of Southmayd Baptist Church even though she attended church in the town where she lived.
Granny is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Sisemore of Sherman; son, Ronnie Smith and wife, Sheila, of Denison; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Shelton; and 2 sons-in-law, Len Sisemore and Larry Shelton; 3 sisters and a brother. - - - Dannel Funeral Home
