Katharine Belle Grimes was born to I.V. (Tobe) and Margaret Maxwell Grimes on September 27, 1925 in Whitesboro.
She graduated from Sherman High School and the WNJ School of Nursing, working as an R.N. at WNJ hospital and for Dr. Joe Stout. She married J.W. (Jack) Smith in 1942, and was blessed with 5 children. Living in Crosbyton, she was widowed in 1959 while expecting their 5th child. She married Ted Wineinger in 1961, inheriting a grown daughter, and adding 2 more children to her family. Retiring at 38, she focused on raising her young children and making a home for her family, carpooling, attending little league games, taking the girls to piano lesson and recitals, and twirling competitions.
Kay loved God, her family, and her country. She held the belief of service to country and community. Her husband, 2 brothers, and 3 of her sons proudly served in the military. She was active in a number of veteran’s organizations including the V.F.W., American Legion Auxiliary: commander’s wife, president, and Jr. Auxiliary sponsor for many years, attending numerous conventions all over the State of Texas. She visited the veterans at the Bonham V.A. once a month for more than 10 years, and shut ins in local nursing homes every month for many years. She volunteered as a ‘pink lady’ with the TMC Auxiliary, at Helping Hands food pantry, and was a member of the Social Order of the Beauseants, among others.
Kay loved to travel, favoring a resort near Mt. Home, Arkansas for 15 years running, making lifelong friends there. She later discovered the Rockies, Grand Tetons, and Sierra Nevada’s. She loved the outdoors, fishing trips, cards and dominoes, and flower gardening. An ardent animal lover, she had a special affinity for kitty cats.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Kerry Michael in 2008. She is survived by husband Ted Wineinger of Denison, brothers James Grimes of Pilot Point, Gene Grimes of Bonner’s Ferry, ID; children: Jacky Smith and wife Retha of Collinsville, Sandy Bruno of Buena Park, CA, Debbie Evans and husband John of Greensburg, IN, Kathy Garland and husband Paul of Sherman, Robby Smith of Denison, Ted Wineinger, Jr. and wife Cindy of Denison, and Tammie Overturf and husband David of Sherman. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren,
a host of other family and friends. Kay was a loving wife, mother and meemaw who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her funny and odd sense of humor helped to ‘lighten the load’ during the last several years of living with Alzheimer’s.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Billy Smith, Ricky Smith, Josh Hagan, Dustin Garland, T.W. Wineinger, Aarron Overturf, and Tyler Overturf.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, 604 West Main in Denison.

Ted Wineinger, 86, of Denison, passed away on November 18, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 23rd at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with Bro. Rusty Denny officiating, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. Family visitation will be Monday, November 22nd from 6 - 8 p.m.
at Fisher Funeral Home.

Ted Laverne Wineinger was born to John Lloyd and Maggie Mae Williams Wineinger on September 1, 1924 at the family home at 2000 West Walker, number 8 out of 10 children. Ted graduated with honors from Denison High School in 1942 while completing a one year stint with the MKT railroad. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1942, and completed his basic training at San Diego, Calif. He was assigned to the USS S-31, a Holland class submarine, and achieved the rank of First Class Electrician's Mate. His crossing of the equator and international dateline was quite a thrill. His excursions to the Hawaiian Islands and Australia made a lasting impression and a fueled a lifetime of traveling and adventure. Ted was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945, having served most of his time in defensive patrol in the Pacific Theatre.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Kay in June 2010; son, Kerry Michael in 2008; sisters, Alma Lane, Fairy Wineinger, Peggy Denton; and brothers, Jack, Johnny, Charles, and Dale Wineinger. He is survived by sister, Thelma Vick of Denison and brother, Gale Wineinger of Gainesville, Ga.; his children, Jackie Smith and wife Retha of Collinsville, Sandy Bruno of Buena Park, Calif., Debbie Evans and husband John of Greensburg, Ind., Kathy Garland and husband Paul of Sherman, Robby Smith of Denison, Ted Wineinger, Jr. and wife Cindy of Denison, and Tammie Overturf and husband David of Sherman. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The 'eight is enough' household was filled with much love, laughter, music, and mischief. Ted was a strict disciplinarian and 'yes sir' or 'no sir' was the only response tolerated. He dutifully saw to it that his children received an education at home, at school, and in church. He commanded respect in all matters and rarely let an opportunity pass for many 'teachable moments' in life. Ted loved God, his church, his country, and his family. He was a true handy-man: carpenter, mechanic, plumber, and electrician. He had a brilliant mind -- always processing and analyzing -- so much so that it became a family joke that if it took two hours to complete a task, it would take Daddy four. He never took the easy way out and gave unselfishly of his time and talents. Ted was a lifelong learner, earned his A.A.S. in Electronics from Grayson, and retired from SCM Allied-Egry.
Daddy loved music, traveling, cards, dominoes, and was an avid reader and an expert angler. He'd go 'wet a hook' as often as possible, but his happiest times were spent with his family.
Ted was past Commander for the American Legion and V.F.W. He was an active member and mentor in the Lone Star Masonic Lodge # 403, Commandry, Hella Shriners, and Scottish Rite, achieving all 32 degrees. He served as Past Worshipful Master, Past Thrice Illustrious Master, and High Priest; and received numerous awards including the Golden Trowel, Cryptic Triangle, Excalibur Award, and Cornerstone Award. He faithfully attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. His legacy was a life of unselfish giving, service, and dedication.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Billy Smith, Steve Smith, Ricky Smith, Josh Hagan, Dustin Garland, T.W. Wineinger, Mikey Smith, Aarron Overturf, and Tyler Overturf.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home located at 604 West Main St. in Denison.
