Sherman - Funeral service for Dr. Arthur Gleckler, Sherman, who died yesterday in a Sherman hospital, were held  at First United Methodist Church in Sherman.  Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
Gleckler was born August 21, 1894 in La Grange, Texas and married Mildred Chumblea in Waco.  She died in 1965.  He then married Elizabeth Carpenter August 10, 1966 in Sherman.
He graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in 1924 and interned at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.  He taught school at Sinton and San Antonio after graduating from UT, practiced family medicine and practical surgery in Denison 1924-1929.
He then moved to Sherman where he joined the staff of the Medical and Surgical Clinic.  After retirement in 1974, he was elected county health doctor.  He served on the Sherman school board for 10 years and was president of the Grayson County Medical Society and Medical Service.
He served as chief of staff at St. Vincent's Hospital and at the Medical and Surgical Clinic and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Kiwanis Club.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board for a number of years.  He also served in the Army Air Corps, enlisting in 1917, and worked as a chemist for Texas Oil Company for some time.
Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Dr. W.J. Gleckler of San Mateo, California; J.D. of San Francisco; and Rev. Arthur Gleckler of Baltimore; 3 step-daughters, Mrs. Cash Baxter of New York City; Mrs. Lindsey Holcomb; and Mrs. Michael A Turner of Mexico City; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity.
