Joe Cox Burtis, Sr., fondly known as Jose' to lifelong friends and family passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at the age
of 80.

A time of family visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bratcher Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Lemon officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Denison.
Joe was born February 19, 1935 son of Pleasant Word "Boots" and Mildred Cox Burtis. He graduated from Denison High School in 1953 and spent most of his life in the construction and roofing business. He was owner of Joe Burtis Construction Company developing Royal Ridge and Brookhaven Estates in Denison. Joe was a 30 year friend of Bill W. and very active in the recovery community and instrumental in founding the Surrender House in Denison. He and Terry resided in the family home at 1015 W. Walker in Denison. Joe enjoyed raising cattle and fishing throughout the years.
Joe is survived by his wife Terry; daughters D'Ann (Larry) Ellis, Dana (Kevin) Farley, their mother Jeanne Burtis, Kelly Gobel; brother John Austin Burtis and wife Pam; 13 grandchildren. He was blessed and loved with thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother Pleasant Word Burtis, and son Joe Cox Burtis, Jr.
