Charlie Brown went to be with Jesus at 7:00 AM on Friday, September 30, 2022. The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 3 from 6-8 PM at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman, TX. The Celebration of Live service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, at 1:00 PM, also at Fairview.
Charles Leland Brown was born in Bridgton, ME on June 20, 1946. His family moved to Carson, CA while he was a young child. He graduated from Carson High School and later joined the Navy, where he served from 1964 to 1970.
During his time in the Navy, he began exchanging letters with a friend's cousin named Becky Hoffpauir. After several months, he stopped by her hometown in Crowley, LA to meet her in person, while hitchhiking across the country to get back to Los Angeles. They married on September 6, 1969. After his time in the Navy, he earned his BS from California State University at Long Beach. He and Becky moved to Thornton, OH, where they had three children, Keith, Kevin and Kimberly, and became a dedicated Denver Broncos fan. They were also active members of Northglenn Baptist Church.
In 1985, Charlie accepted a job at Texas Instruments, and the family  moved to Sherman, TX. Charlie continued to work as a Quality Engineer at various companies for several years and earned an MBA from UT Dallas. After a short-lived retirement, he began substitute teaching in the Sherman ISD. His was a life of service to others, exemplified through being a long-time deacon at Fairview Baptist Church, an active member of the Lions Club for over 30 years, as well as with American Legion. Charlie always enjoyed making people laugh and had a quick sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Becky Brown; children, Keith Brown and wife Dee of Huntsville, AL; Kevin Brown of  Sherman, TX; Kim Lumpkin and husband Zech of Colorado Springs, CO; Frank Holder and wife Penny of Galveston, TX; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandee Thorpe and Robin Walters. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his sister, Sylvia Soloway.
