George W. Browning

DENISON - George Washington Browning, 86, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Park Avenue Church of Christ with Todd Catteau, minister, officiating. Burial will be
in Fairview Cemetery by Fisher Funeral Home.

Mr. Browning was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Coleman, Okla., the son of Calvin and Martha Turpin Browning and went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 30, 2008, surrounded by his family at The Homestead of Denison. George married Gilda Autenzio on May 12, 1950, in Boston. He worked for the Teleweld after high school, and then went on to serve his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. Later, he worked as a railroad brakeman/conductor for Union Pacific, Rock Island and Burlington Northern.
George loved the Lord and was active in North Amarillo Church of Christ before moving to Denison. For the last three years, he had been a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family affectionately called him "Pop." George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Estey Keithley, Irene Browning, Benson Browning, Tom Browning, Edward Browning and Weldon Browning.
Survivors include his loving family: his wife of 58 years, Gilda Browning; a son, Gene Wayne Browning and wife Dorothy
of Austin; a daughter, Colleen Russell and husband Ronald of Wylie; a granddaughter, Darcy Loraine Poen and husband Tom; a grandson, Dustin Alan Russell; and three sisters, Muriel Bush of Fort Worth, Della Jones of Amarillo and Stella Watson of San Marcos.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
