Irving Miller Dies at Home; Rites Are Set Wednesday

Irving E. Miller, 70, who recently retired as assistant district superintendent of the Postal Transportation Service, died yesterday at 2:30 p.m. at his home following a [illegible] illness of a heart condition. He suffered his first attack in January.
A native Denisonian and member of a pioneer Grayson County family, Miller spent 47 years in the Railway Mail Service,
45 of which were in Denison. Before his retirement last Dec. 31, he had been assistant district superintendent for 12 years. Miller's grandfather was John Kinsey Miller, who came to Texas and this vicinity in 1858.

Miller, who made his home at 817 West Bond, received his first job with the railway postal division Aug. 23, 1902, when he was appointed a substitute clerk. His first run was on the old Paris and Cleburne RPO, and he later served on the Fort Worth and Galveston RPO and the Denison to San Antonio run. On Feb. 1, 1937, he was appointed assistant district superintendent. Early last month he was honored by coworkers and friends at a dinner, when they presented him with a complete set of power woodworking tools.
The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Asa D. Miller, he was born here Dec. 6, 1879. He received his schooling here and was married to the former Miss Ethel Camp in 1906. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are:

    * his wife
    * a son, Earl C. Miller of Dallas
    * five brother: B.D.Miller, Denison; S.B.Miller, Dallas; C.H.Miller, Olathe,Colo.; L.T.Miller of Fort Worth; and C.C.Miller of Beaumont
    * two sisters:  Mrs. Margaret Pace of Delta, Colo., and Miss Maude Miller of Fort Worth.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. W. B. Billingsley, pastor. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Bratcher-Moore Funeral home.
